Assistant Principal_
Murdock Middle School (Grades 6-8)
Overview:

The Assistant Principal at Murdock Middle School plays a vital leadership role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and academically challenging environment that supports the success of all students. This individual will assist the Principal in managing the school's daily operations, supporting teachers and staff, and ensuring that students thrive academically and socially. Key Responsibilities:
- Instructional Leadership
- Support teachers in implementing effective instructional strategies aligned with district goals and state standards.
- Analyze student performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement evidence-based interventions.
- Promote professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and instructional quality.
- School Climate and Culture
- Foster a positive, inclusive school culture that emphasizes equity, respect, and high expectations for all.
- Collaborate with students, families, and staff to address and resolve student behavior, discipline, and attendance issues.
- Lead initiatives that support student well-being, social-emotional learning, and extracurricular engagement.
- Operational Management
- Assist in planning and executing the school's daily operations, including scheduling, special education team meetings, facilities management, and safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
- Support the implementation of emergency procedures and maintain a secure learning environment.
- Staff Supervision and Development
- Collaborate with the Principal to evaluate teacher and staff performance through observations and constructive feedback.
- Mentor and support faculty and staff to meet professional goals and improve instructional outcomes.
- Assist in recruiting and onboarding new staff members.
- Family and Community Engagement
- Act as a liaison between the school and families to strengthen home-school partnerships.
- Participate in community outreach and events to promote the school’s vision and mission.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to foster trust and collaboration.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Valid Massachusetts Administrator License (Principal/Assistant Principal or Special Education Administrator)
- At least 3-5 years of successful teaching experience, with demonstrated leadership experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to analyze data, solve problems, and implement school improvement initiatives.
Desired Skills and Attributes:
- Commitment to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive school environment.
- Knowledge of middle school curriculum, instruction, and assessment strategies.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities effectively and maintain a calm, professional demeanor under pressure.
- Experience with restorative practices, social-emotional learning, and behavior intervention systems is a plus.
- Experience facilitating the special education team process is preferred.
