Reports to: Superintendent of Schools
Job Goals: Assists the Superintendent in the efficient and effective operation of the Superintendent’s office functions so that s/he may develop and maintain the best possible educational programs and services for children.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent work and educational experience.
- At least five years of experience in office administration, public school district experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with administrators, faculty, parents, the general public, School Committee, and town officials.
- Ability to interpret, apply, and explain complex information such as regulations, policies, contracts or services.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and a high degree of tact and diplomacy in responding to issues and problems brought to the attention of the Superintendent’s office.
- Ability to work with highly confidential and legally sensitive employee and organizational material.
- Ability to work independently as well as work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and perform detailed work accurately and efficiently within strict deadlines in an environment with interruptions.
Performance Responsibilities:
Office of Superintendent Functions
- Serves as confidential/executive assistant to the Superintendent.
- Manages routine matters not requiring the Superintendent’s attention.
- Maintains and manages the Superintendent’s calendar; receives and screens phone calls, correspondence and visitors.
- Serves as liaison between Superintendent and various stakeholders.
- Composes business letters, documents, reports and handles routine correspondence for the Superintendent.
- Maintains regular and confidential filing systems.
- Provides administrative support of highly confidential nature for the Superintendent and other administrative members of the district
HR Functions
- Serves as the districts’ CORI and SAFIS administrator, referring necessary information to the Superintendent of Schools.
- Maintains updated teacher seniority lists for all districts, including the tracking of professional status
- Monitors certification/licensure of staff members.
- Maintains records of administrator, support staff and nurse contract information, and prepares yearly salary letters for the Superintendent’s signature.
- Maintains records of teacher steps, lanes, longevity, notification of advancement on salary schedule, etc. Verifies pertinent data and prepares yearly salary letters.
- Maintains personnel files.
School Committee Functions
- Generates School Committee meeting agendas, prepares and electronically distributes School Committee packets to members prior to meetings.
- Maintains School Committee files and disseminates information to the public in accordance with public records laws.
Miscellaneous
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
Terms of Employment: Salary range based on experience relevant to the position.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools. |
